P.I.Y. garden – now finished

May 3rd, 2011

The PIY garden is finally finished. Plant (and build) It Yourself as a concept was a happy mix of talents and a perfect way for this client to get the garden they wanted within their budget and timeframe. We acted as consultants and handled plant selection and placement.

With the hard work of site clearance done during our terrible winter behind them, long summer evenings sitting on the deck are all that concerns this family now.

Following the design to the letter allowed all works to proceed without a hitch and produce a garden exactly like the one we designed on paper last year. We were very impressed with their quality of finish and attention to detail.

Plants took a beating during the terrible winter. Here the weeping cotoneasters look a bit fragile but will recover well with a few weeks of spring temperatures and longer bright days. The purple wall behind adds another dimension to this garden.

The area behind the swing has a mixture of plants which should survive an accidental trampling. The Coronet apple tree will keep its small size while the taller carpinus will punctuate the top of the wall with light green leaves.

The floor level from the house continues across the deck and on to the lawn. This allows the same level to run the full length of the house and into the garden, without any steps or danger of tripping.

A privacy fence screens the neighbours’ wall and is fronted by a sleeper planting space. Our signature olive trees are planted into this and it is under planted with lavender and rosemary.

Well done you guys. Give yourselves a round of applause.
