new front garden gallery

March 5th, 2011

We have just added a new gallery devoted to front gardens.  Front gardens are often are often done separately from the back garden so we thought it would help prospective clients to see the many different types of design solutions that can be applied to the front garden – together in one gallery.

There is no standard front garden:

pocket-sized front garden

There are small front gardens like this one where some smart planting and gravel make for a neat uncomplicated low maintenance space.

soft front garden

There are large front gardens.  In this case we took away about 50% of the lawn and created two interesting planting beds one under the front window and a larger one right at the front which frames the entire view of the house.

lavender front

There are in-between size gardens in older houses where providing a space for cars is not required by the client.  In this case the old lawn was removed and replaced with a gravel area with a central planting bed and a planting bed all around, filled with lavenders and other low maintenance planting.

cottage garden

Sometimes the front garden has to act like a back garden t0o.  In this case we created a semi-private lawn and seating area behind a row of hornbeams to allow the client somewhere to relax and enjoy as there was no proper back garden.

granite and bay front

Sometimes front gardens have awkward shapes – like the one above but we still managed to create smart space with granite paving and topiary boxus.

public front garden

Sometimes front gardens serve the needs of many residents such as this shared front garden which open to the public.

small front No. 1

And sometimes a front garden can be very small inwhich case less is more.  In this small front garden, buxus balls planted into gravel create a neat and contemporary front garden for a Victorian redbrick house.
