This lamp with its jewel like chunks of coloured glass was the starting point for injecting some funky colour into an ordinary room.
We decided that colour was not enough so we went about adding a few more touches like the horizontal wallpaper with a raised Macintosh rose design as seen here beside deep red velvet and silk curtains
The room needed a lift against this fab wallpaper. As it is quite a busy background, a picture was not going to work. One mirror was the obvious choice, but we don’t really like obvious, so we went with three instead!
They serve to break up a long alcove and also act as pictures by reflecting different views. They are fairly impressive as they are the last thing you expect to see there. The walls are painted in a light grey called ,” plum black ashes” , by Colortrend.
The floor was kept simple and to carry the colour blast throughout, we used a striking circle design rug in silk and wool.
By using the couple’s own sofas, we were able to concentrate budget on other areas of impact, in this case we decided to change the old chipped and fairly ugly fireplace. We designed a very simple fire surround in highly polished black granite, reduced the hearth width and slimmed down the overall proportions to suit the narrow room.
Once it was installed it instantly transformed the space. Hanging above is a handmade metal sculpture from Iran – it weighs much more than it seems! John Rocha black cut crystal bowls and and jewel coloured Waterford Crystal pieces sit perfectly amongst the glamour. Duck down and feather cushions, in vivid shades of pleated satin add a final touch of luxury
With simple storage and effective glamorous lighting this room has a stylish finish that is bang up to date and feels really inviting.
