Thanks to some favourable early autumn weather and a lot of hard work, our city centre courtyard garden was finally completed, on time and still under budget.
And what a difference from that dull neglected space before! We painted the boundary wall in a gentle lavender colour and also the end walls of the house to harmonise the space before attaching bespoke narrow horizontal trellis to the top of the garden wall for added privacy.
Like the lower level, the upper level of the courtyard is paved in smart buff granite. Rather the fill the space with paving, we put gravel into cut out sections and installed two specimen olive trees in modern black cube planters.
The view from the dining area is now a smart courtyard inviting you out to enjoy. The bespoke horizontal trellis affords complete yet sublte privacy and is softened by the careful position of a third specimen olive tree in another black cube.
The planting is soft and gentle against the solid sharpness of the granite paving. Two Italian Cypress trees punctuate the planting space and add a gorgeous shade of evergreen to the lavender walls. Red flowering crocosmia, purple leaved heuchera and deepest bronze phormium sit alongside waxy green leaves and tall willowy grasses.
Bespoke storage boxes double up as seating and afford different views of this interesting courtyard space. A specimen olive tree, one of our signature plants, looks stunning against the new trellis and adds instant maturity to the space.
This client was extremly complimentary about our creative solutions and could hardly believe it was the same garden. All that is left now is to enjoy a very beautiful outdoor space with mimimun maintenance and outdoor storage included. A result all round!
