Despite the showery weather, we finished the planting of that front garden of the Edwardian house in Dublin. And what a difference creating proportion and symmetry make to a garden like this.
We planted prunus lusitanica close together to create an almost instant classic evergreen hedge. Standard photinia red robin nana pop out of the top of the hedge and create height and interest.
Ferns and astillbes add interest to larger front bed and create a pleasing aspect when viewed from the doorway. One standard photinia red robin underplanted with lavender creates a formal centre point to the garden.
Simple multiple planting of hebes add a restrained formality to the bed around the bay window.
The reduced pallette of planting adds structure and makes the garden feel less fussy.
The standard photinia red robin nanas create structure and interest but also provide additional privacy at eye level from the street.
